But that’s what Warrnambool’s St Pius Primary School pupils did last Friday in an effort to raise awareness of the thousands of people who walk long distances each day to retrieve water simply to survive.
Caritas Ks is a fund-raising event for the Caritas Australia charity, supporting people in Third World countries.
Pupils from prep to grade six rode their bikes and scooters, walked or ran the course, achieving points for the distance travelled and how much water they carried.
The children competed in their house colours — red team emerging the overall winner based on how many points it gained and the amount of money raised.
Teacher Matt O’Brien was pleased with how the day went, the kids’ efforts raising both awareness and a total of $600.
“The weather was perfect and the children participated fully,” Mr O’Brien said.
